Christy

Christy Strickland began her love affair with animals at a young age, starting with the family dog, a cocker spaniel named Delilah. It was with Delilah that she learned the importance of a grooming regimen including gentle brushing & fun bath times. Her experience broadened when she attended Girl Scout camp and learned about the care and grooming of horses. The camp taught her how to handle animals larger than her and the kind of gentle strength needed to clean hoofs and brush out manes, but also gave her a sense of peace while working with the animals. Little did she know that only 10 years in the future she would be taking her training further as a grooming assistant and owner of her own “miniature horse,” her Great Dane, Penny Lane.

In 2006, Christy took a job at a major pet supply chain (Petco) in Shorewood, IL. At the time her only intention was to pay bills and keep food on the table, but once again the appeal of working hands-on with animals began to consume her. After relocating to St. Louis in the summer of 2007, she sought out a smaller, more intimate pet boutique to hone her skill as an aspiring canine cosmetologist and found a home in Four Muddy Paws and a mentor in Crystal Rolfe. Since then she has acquired many new skills including fluff drying, paw & pad trims, and sanitary trims, while maintaining skills such as bathing, conditioning, and drying. Christy’s plans for the future include more in-depth study under Crystals’ tutelage as well as a certification program in Canine Massage Therapy.
